    ONLINE DIPLOMA - JOURNALISM

GAIN A JOURNALISM DIPLOMA FROM HOME

Writing can be an exciting profession, but before embarking on a substantial course of study with us or anyone else; be sure you fully understand what is involved. Some people simply don't succeed perhaps because the dream is not the same as the reality; or maybe they are simply not the right personality. This job is not just about writing well; it also requires you to be able to write quickly and work under pressure. You also need to be prepared to write what an employer wants, which is not always the same as what you want. This is the reality of journalism. If you can get past these considerations, and with a bit of luck, you may be able to forge a serious career.

STUDY EDITING AND PROOFREADING FROM HOME

Editing involves making amendments to written text. The editor has to review what has been written and refine it. This might involve rewriting whole sentences, changing grammar, correcting spelling mistakes, and altering punctuation. It can also include making adjustments to the layout of a page. Proofreading follows editing. It is the final read through written text where usually only minor adjustments to spelling or grammar are made.

This course begins with an outline of publishing and editing and then takes the student through the key elements of editing work. Upon completion the students will be familiar with copy editing processes and proofreading techniques.

This course provides students with a first step toward a career in editing and proofreading. Alone, the course does not make you a professional editor, but it can lead to valuable career opportunities when combined with other courses that develop your knowledge and skills in publishing and journalism.

Graduates of this course may well start with part time work editing websites, newsletters or low circulation magazines, but over time (and perhaps with further study) can work up to full time employment as a proofreader, sub editor, book or magazine editor, copy editor, freelance editor, or even as a publishing assistant or publisher.

ACS Student comment: [Marked work] comes back quickly and the comments are helpful and detailed if necessary. The course is very valuable, as it makes me more accustomed to communicating electronically, which is how everything is done these days. I’m really enjoying this course. I have a really unpredictable schedule, so I never really took to other avenues of study. With this course I can take my time and absorb the material at my own pace. I think it’s clever and practical. I haven’t had this much fun studying in years. Michelle de Klerk, Australia - Editing & Proofreading course.

LEARN TO WRITE ALL TYPES OF POETRY

Writing poetry is an art. It is a means of expressing thoughts and feelings through verse. Poetry can be used to convey a wide array of thoughts and feelings - serious, witty, funny, poignant, moving, sad, uplifting, and so forth.  This is usually done using few words, but poems may range from short stanzas to epic poems which read like stories. Although some would argue that poets have a natural ability for using words in a sublime way, not all poets are seemingly born with this natural talent - it is possible to hone one's poetry writing skills.

By studying this course, you will take lessons which introduce you to the work of famous poets. You will be encouraged to unlock your inner artist, and you will be helped to develop your ability to write and understand different types of poetry. Writing poetry can be tremendously fulfilling. There is great satisfaction in being able to construct verse and put one's imagination into words.

This course provides those interested in poetry with exposure to different styles of poetry and how to write it. It is envisaged that graduates will finish with a much greater appreciation for poetry than they already had, and will feel suitably inspired to continue refining their poetry writing skills.
