CAREERS ADVICE

No course (unfortunately) will ever guarantee a successful job or career .

Study certainly helps, but any successful employer only stays successful if they employ and maintain good staff; and before you start studying you need to understand that employers will consider ALL of the following things when deciding who to employ:

  • Attitude and Personality (eg. Things such as Untidiness or Arrogance do not win a job, even if you are good at everything else)
  • Ability to communicate (not only speaking, but also listening)
  • Personal Circumstances (Laws sometimes prohibit employers from considering some things like age, marital status, gender, financial needs etc; but in reality, such things do get considered by many employers even if they do not say so)
  • History (References, past experience etc)
  • Knowledge and skills (This is not the same as a qualification. We often see our certificate graduates beat university graduates for a job because they have learnt more relevant things through ACS)
  • Awareness and networking (If you know people and organisations who can benefit an employer, you are more attractive).
  • What qualifications does the person have (Qualifications simply mean you have been endorsed by the college or accrediting body which backs the qualification). The value of the qualification is only good if the college or endorsing body has a good reputation in the eyes of the employer.
