PERMACULTURE MEDIA RELEASE:

A DECADE OF SHARING KNOWLEDGE WITH THE UK

It's a dual celebration for ACS Distance Education this year, as the established international learning institution marks a decade of education experiences for students throughout the UK in areas such as sustainable agriculture, permaculture, horticulture and self sufficiency.

“Not only are we proud of a having clocked up 10 years of learning relationships with people across the United Kingdom, adding to 31 years of teaching and tutoring in Australia, but we also have a new team member who brings with him a real passion for permaculture and a dream to make a difference,” says John Mason, principal and founder of ACS (Australian Correspondence Schools).

“With a host of niche targeted courses on offer to students within the sustainable agriculture, horticulture and permaculture fields of study, we are proud to announce that Martin Powdrill, a permaculturist for the past four years, is now the face of tutoring these subjects in the UK.”

With an Honours Degree in Applied Science (Resources Option), a Masters Degree in Computer Studies, and Permaculture Design Certificate, Martin’s goal is to bring about sustainable change by combining his strengths and experience in his environmental, project management, and business backgrounds.

The beauty of ACS courses is that they can be completed in someone's own time, via mail or email, coupled with personalised tutoring from Martin, which can be ideal for those who are often unable to easily access traditional educational facilities.

ACS has a number of short courses and modules including Permaculture Systems, that when completed leads to the student being awarded a Certificate; and a credit toward higher qualifications with ACS. ACS is a member of both the Institute of Horticulture and the Permaculture Association in the UK.

“With other courses such Self Sufficiency, Herbs, Fruit, Vegetables, Poultry, Mud Brick Construction and Alternative Energy, students can study these topics individually or combine six modules to graduate with a Certificate in Self Sufficiency, essentially tailoring your own qualifications for your personal requirements and areas of interest,” says Mr Mason.
