Begin Your Journey to Becoming a Plant Expert

Besides the obvious beauty of many plants there is an awful lot more to these wonderful organisms. They are incredibly complex. For instance plants produce food for themselves from sunlight and carbon dioxide. They can cool themselves on hot days by drawing up moisture from the soil and releasing it through leaf pores. They also have complex relationships with fungi in the soil which serve as a conduit connecting root systems.

The reproductive systems are plants are also a thing of wonderment. Some plants have bisexual flowers, some have only male or female flowers. Plants also contain a divers range of chemicals some of which are toxic to humans and other animals, and some of which are of great value.

Study this fascinating course to learn about plant physiology and biology, chemical reactions in plants, and the anatomy of plants.

Learn how important plants are to human life and global sustainability.

Plants are very important to more industries than what most people imagine; from pharmaceuticals to pollution control and construction to tourism.

Through this study program, you learn to understand plants, and grow your awareness of how and where that knowledge may be applied in business for commercial and social benefits in the modern world.

BE MORE THAN A BOTANIST OR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST

In the past, people who worked with plant science were commonly classically trained at university as a botanist or environmental scientist.

The world is not what it used to be though, and it is changing faster than ever. It will continue to change, and for sustained success through your working life, you need to become "connected" and remain "connected", so you see and adapt to change, as it continues to happen.

How You Learn

This course is very practical, experiential learning. By encountering what you learn in a variety of different contexts, your learning is reinforced as you progress through your studies: and that means it becomes embedded in your longer term memory, and is less likely to be forgotten than what might be learned in shorter knowledge or competency based courses.

This course establishes sound practical skills and knowledge about working with plants; but more importantly, also fosters your awareness of the real world, and where a knowledge of plant science can be applied commercially. It fosters your networking with the scientific and business communities, and raises your awareness of how what you learn can be applied in industry for business opportunity as well as social and environmental benefits.
