Credentials

Requiring no prior knowledge of computers, this is a fast track course to knowing your way around one, and then some!
You will develop an understanding of computers and their applications in industry, and will increase your ability to use a computer in both home and work situations.

  4. Software
  5. Peripherals
  6. Computer Operations
  7. Workplace Requirements
  8. Computer Management

Each lesson culminates in an assignment which is submitted to the school, marked by the school's tutors and returned to you with any relevant suggestions, comments, and if necessary, extra reading.

Aims

  • Explain the function of a computer.
  • Demonstrate skills in the operation of MS-DOS necessary for the routine maintenance of computer files for a specified workplace situation.
  • Determine the scope and applications of computers in industry.
  • Evaluate appropriate applications for commonly available software used in computer systems.
  • Evaluate appropriate applications for commonly available peripherals used in personal computer systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate a personal computer.
  • Analyse the computer needs of a selected workplace situation to specify computer system components appropriate to the requirements of that situation.
  • Develop a procedure to manage computer use in the learner's appropriate industry.
