Environmental Courses

This foundation course is an integral part of our longer environmental certificates and diplomas. This course develops a basis for managing conservation in different environments. The course reviews basic ecology and environmental problems such as pollution and land degradation before considering varying aspects of conservation such as animal, marine and vegetation.

LEARN ABOUT HOW THE EARTH IS FORMED AND IT'S CHANGING PROCESSES

This facinating course develops your an ability to identify and describe the Earth, its structure and explain processes that affect change in the structure and it's composition.  An understanding of Earth's processes is essential for anyone interested in environmental issues and management of natural resources as well ecotourism operators and those just intereseted in the world around them.    Lessons include: rocks and minerals, meteorology, global weather patterns & atmospherics, the oceans, surface chances (eg. earthquakes and volcanoes), geological time, plate tectonics and more.

Ecology is the cornerstone of the Life Sciences. It provides the link between the different branches of Life Sciences, structuring them as a complete concept of life. Ecology studies the relationships between living beings, be it animal, plants or microorganisms, and with their environment. How we interact, benefit or compete with each other, how we evolve together, how the environment presents opportunities for change, and how living beings alter the environment to provide for their own needs. This course covers general principles of ecology, that can be applied anywhere on our planet.

Learn about marine life

Develop a knowledge of marine life and ecology, whether for work or general interest. The first two lessons deal with marine environments (weather, nutrient cycle, reefs, shallow and deep water environments, etc). Lessons 3 to 8 deal mostly with marine animals, particularly more complex animals, and the last lesson considers human impacts upon marine environments.

A fascinating insight into marine life

This course follows on from Marine studies I, extending your knowledge of a wide variety of marine organisms.  It works through many types of marine organisms, focusing mostly on those not covered as thoroughly in Marine Studies I (This includes: Protists, Sponges, Marine plants, Cnidarians, Worms, Arthropods, Molluscs, Echinoderms, Non Bony Fish, Selected Bony Fish and selected Marine Mammals).

Then this course is for you! This course has been specifically designed for people working or wishing to work in nature parks and reserves, in managerial or technical positions.Learn about natural environments, and the management of zoos, wildlife parks, nature reserves. Develop an understanding of the natural environment and basic ecological principles, and learn a variety of skills ranging from basic gardening and nature park design, to erosion control, weed control and tree surgery.

The course covers many of the fundamental tasks which people who work in such parks need to do; including weed control, soil management, land rehabilitation, landscape construction, etc.

DISCOVER THE AMAZING WORLD OF BIRDS!

Learn with us what is a bird, how they evolved, what adaptations they developed to be able to colonize air, land and water so successfully!. This course is designed for people working or wishing to work with birds and animals, life scientists and environmental researchers and consultants, amateur bird watchers, or anyone working with birds. Learn to identify and understand the habits of different birds, from water birds and parrots, to town birds and birds of prey.

ADVANCE YOUR CAREER IN ENVIRONMENTAL AND BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

Acquire a deeper understanding on the principles of plant ecology, why plants are the way they are, their relationships to other plants and living beings, how they developed in evolution and which factors determine their growth and survival.  Apply that understanding to horticulture and the cultivation of plants, develop a new view on the plant world.

A course designed for people working or wishing to work with environmental rehabilitation and contaminated sites recovery. This excellent course develops an understanding of environmental systems and the rehabilitation of degraded landscapes. You learn about seed collection, storage and germination, propagation, plant selection, establishment techniques, controlling pest & disease after planting.

This course will give you a thorough understanding of “higher” animals’ Zoology and Evolution, together with some principles on animal ecology and morphology.

LEARN ABOUT WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT & CONSERVATION

This course will give students a broad based introduction to wildlife management that can be applied to all types of wildlife around the globe. It can serve as a course in its own right or as part of a higher qualification in environmental or nature park management.

Wildlife management is the manipulation of wild animal populations and their habitats for the benefit of both humans and wildlife. Wildlife management includes running parks and reserves, altering and rehabilitating wildlife habitats, pest control, protecting human life and property and managing harvests of wildlife.
